With the season having just commenced, Team SCOTT-SPIN CITY are well on their way to proving they have what it takes to race against the pros.

Although still in search of a major financial sponsor to cover the cost of race entries and transportation, the team is fully committed and currently surviving through self-funding.

The guys kicked off the season in style with a tough first race in the Sizzling Summer Criterium Series being held at Crestmead in Brisbane. With a combined field of Elite A and B graders in excess of 80 riders the pace was on from the gun.

After 60 minutes of racing at an average speed of 45kmph “three laps to go” was called and the push for position saw many of the teams riders boxed in to the peloton. The home straight was on a descent and as bike computers displayed speeds of 70+kmph it was not to be the day for Team SCOTT-SPIN CITY.

The second race of the season was the infamous Dalby Criterium held on February 19 and four team members made the tiresome journey out to compete against some of Australia’s best known riders.

Team manager Leighton Jefferson and co-rider Ross Cattle injected the pace from the start and created somewhat of a trend with breaks being formed every few laps.

In searing 35 degree heat and on a treacherous circuit, it was the youngest member of the team, Jack “Randy Jack Russell” Hudson who proved his worth and hung in until the final two laps.

With a prize purse of $1000 for first place, the big guns were out to play and by the end of 50 minutes even they were looking for respite from what has since been described as the ‘toughest race of the season so far’.

Backing up on Sunday, Team SCOTT-SPIN CITY took out 1st and 2nd placing’s in the overall point score of the Sunshine Coast Cycling Club Criterium Series held at Kunda Park.
